What you will be doing

I heard it all, why yoga is not for men. You might get injured, you are not flexible enough, it's too slow, it's too boring and so on and so forward. I'm here to prove you otherwise and to show you why yoga is an excellent companion to any sort of sports you are practicing, or a great way to start moving again. The class is specially designed to suit new male practitioners who are tired of following the stereotypical associations of yoga being a sport for women. One thing that requires of someone who would like to start doing yoga is to not see it as a sport, leave their Ego at the mat and just enjoy all the benefits of the practice. Yoga is movement in tune with breath with the purpose of linking all these with the mind, so why would it be only for women? Just know this. Yoga as a tradition has been practiced mostly by men, having all the lineages linked to only male figures. All the philosophical and sacred texts have been translated by men, and only in the recent years women have started looking into offering a more "loving" aspect to the philosophy. Stop overthinking if you've read so far and just book in. See you on the mat :)

Routine

We start the class by being quiet for a few minutes and see what the whole fuss is about connecting your body to your breath. The first part of a yoga practice is to allow yourself to get used to observing what your body is doing and how it is moving. We warm up joints and stretch areas that normally are neglected, moving with simple movements and all within the capacity of each and one of us. The main part of the class will be going through Yoga poses all adapted to your own capacity, learning when to push for more sensation in the body and when to stay within your limits. This is where I hear that yoga can physically hurt men. Leaving the idea behind that more is better you will build a habit of having a safe and beneficial practice. The main part will be more energetic, more flow and building strength and stability in poses as we progress with the practice. We will always have a cool down where we stretch and explore less energetic poses and finish with a 5 to 10 min relaxation. You will need a mat or a towel and enough unobstructed space for you to safely move around, a few cushions or pillows and if you could have a long belt or a scarf that will come in handy.
